Hotel DeFuniak, built in 1920, is the center of one of the most intriguing and historic towns in the southeast, Defuniak Springs, Florida. In 1997 the hotel was painstakingly restored as one of Florida's most elegant and romantic historic hotels.  Nineteenth century European and American antiques abound throughout the entire hotel to recreate the rich ambiance of a time lost.  Every room has its own unique theme from the Safari to the Dutch Romantic to the French Country.  No matter which room you choose, you will experience the warmth and luxury of another time and place.

From the Hotel, situated in downtown DeFuniak Springs, you can enjoy a walking tour of over 200 historical sites and Victorian homes.  Walk to Florida's oldest library, the Walton County Museum, beautiful Lake DeFuniak and Chautauqua's Hall of Brotherhood.  Then, as the sun sets, take a step back in time and join us for cocktails and an elegant dinner at Bogey's Restaurant.

The Hotel's management is pleased to offer several Romantic Getaway packages.  Also offered are a variety of luxurious Therapeutic Massage treatments in a private, comfortable and relaxing environment.

About DeFuniak Springs

Historic DeFuniak Springs is a small city with a population of 8,000.  DeFuniak Springs was developed in the late 1800s as a railroad town.  In 1881, a railroad surveying party consisting of W.D. Chipley, W.J. VanKirk and W.T. Wright came to the area seeking a route for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad.  After stopping on a hillside overlooking the beautiful, naturally round lake, Colonel Chipley exclaimed, "Here a town shall be built!".  They planned a town named after Fred R. DeFuniak, who held many high offices with the L&N Railroad.  The Florida Chautauqua Association, organized in 1884, held its first assembly in DeFuniak Springs in February of 1885.  The assembly made DeFuniak Springs the cultural center of the South until the late 1920s.  Today, in the spirit of the original Chautauqua, efforts are underway to revive this cultural event.
